Boat sailing through Cabo de Gata Natural Park
🧭 3 departure points

The wind decides the route

La Isleta del Moro · Las Negras · La Fabriquilla · Always the most spectacular waters

The wind is not an obstacle — it's the captain

The Mediterranean at Cabo de Gata has two main winds. The Levante arrives from the east, clear and warm. When it blows, La Fabriquilla — in the south of the park — is sheltered and offers the most extraordinary seabeds.

The Poniente comes from the west, fresh and dry. It leaves calm the northern waters: Las Negras and La Isleta del Moro appear as a natural refuge — perfect for anchoring and exploring virgin coves.

This decision — which the captain always makes thinking about your safety and enjoyment — will reach you the evening before by WhatsApp, with the exact time and meeting point.

Departure from Las Negras or La Isleta

Every Cabo de Gata boat tour departs from one of these three points — La Isleta del Moro, Las Negras or La Fabriquilla — depending on the day's wind. Getting to know each spot helps you understand which coves, seabeds and landscapes you'll see depending on where you set sail. Want to see the most spectacular coves and beaches of the Park first? Fishing village · Volcanic coves · Levante wind

La Isleta del Moro

A fishing village that seems frozen in time, wedged between two volcanic headlands. Narrow streets, colourful boats and the sea at the end of every alley. It is the usual departure point when the Levante wind blows.

Route from here

From here we sail southwards, skirting the La Polacra Marine Reserve. We pass Cala de los Toros and Cala del Plomo — volcanic black rock coves accessible only by sea. Posidonia oceanica seabeds begin to appear just metres from the shore.

What you will see

  • Cala de los Toros (sea access only)
  • La Polacra Marine Reserve
  • Black volcanic basalt cliffs
  • Crested cormorants on the rocks
  • Posidonia seabeds with grouper and octopuses

How to get there

From Almería city, take the AL-12 towards Níjar/Cabo de Gata. Continue to San José and from there to La Isleta del Moro. Parking at the village entrance. About 45 minutes from Almería.

Black volcanic sand · Wild coves · Poniente wind

Las Negras

Named after its volcanic black sand beach, Las Negras is one of the most authentic villages on the Almería coast. No mass tourism hotels, no plastic beach bars. It is the usual departure point when the Poniente wind blows.

Route from here

From here we sail southwards, passing the Cueva de las Palomas — a sea cave accessible only by boat — and the Castillo de San Ramón. We reach the snorkelling area among volcanic seabeds protected by the Marine Reserve.

What you will see

  • Cueva de las Palomas (boat access only)
  • Castillo de San Ramón (medieval ruins from the sea)
  • Black volcanic sand beach
  • Snorkelling zone in the Marine Reserve
  • Possible dolphin sightings during the trip

How to get there

From Almería, take the A-7 towards Níjar and continue to Rodalquilar and Las Negras. Parking on the outskirts of the village. About 50 minutes from Almería.

La Fabriquilla — crystal-clear waters next to the Cabo de Gata Salt Flats

Salt Flats · Lighthouse · Exceptional Levante

La Fabriquilla

In the heart of the Natural Park, opposite the Cabo de Gata Salt Flats. The seabed here is extraordinary: posidonia oceanica and visibility that on good days exceeds 20 metres. Exceptional departure point when the Levante is very strong.

Route from here

From here we sail southwards, skirting the Salt Flats and the Cabo de Gata Lighthouse. The southern waters of the Park are the clearest with the best underwater visibility. This route offers the best chance of seeing sea turtles on the surface.

What you will see

  • Historic Cabo de Gata Lighthouse (1863)
  • Arrecife de las Sirenas at sunset
  • Cabo de Gata Salt Flats (flamingos and birds)
  • Waters with exceptional visibility
  • Loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta) in summer

How to get there

From Almería, head towards Retamar/Cabo de Gata along the coastal road. Pass the Salt Flats and continue to La Fabriquilla. Just 25 minutes from Almería city centre.
